Just a thought: US Democrats, stop hating on Creed
Blogged late for the US crowd…
Look, I get it. Mawkish Christian rock, and all that crap that was on Human Clay and everything that came after. Very preachy, even pushy…
But seriously, guys: In America. Track 5 of debut album My Own Prison. Probably one of the best critiques of everything the modern Republican Party stands for, especially the Tea Baggers. It’s got it all:
- Poverty leading to abortion (“Only in America/ we kill our unborn to make ends meet”)
- Freedom of sexuality (“Only in America/ sexuality is democracy”)
- Greed as a corrupting influence (“we stamp our gold/ In God We Trust”)
- Evangelism as a corrupt money making scheme/the debasement of the church (the entire damn second verse)
And, of course, there’s final album track One, a bipartisan call for racial equality.
So, yes, they may have got really, really awful (Weathered, and in particular My Sacrifice), but don’t forget that they started with an album about a person who’s pretty much lost their faith in their country and the church.
