Students of history will notice what’s missing from the text on this antique tin… (Taken with Instagram at Bart’s Flea Market)
ah yes, the original and best pledge, the way it was meant to be.
^wrong. our nation was founded under God and christianity. it should stay that way. not forcing it upon everyone, we have the right to choose. but it should stay.
*Facepalm*
You know “under God” was added in 1954, right? The original pledge, written by Francis Bellamy in 1892, read: “I pledge allegiance to my Flag and the Republic for which it stands, one nation indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”
Nothing about God or even America… huh.
And actually, it was founded under the ideal of freedom for all religions from persecution. Even though, yes, a lot of the original settlers would identify as a denomination of Christianity, they were not judgemental or insular enough to not want the same freedom they wanted themselves to not be extended to others. This was further reinforced by the First Amendment.
And I’m a Brit!
