“I think the situation will be solved through diplomacy … The Swedish government...”
– Wikileaks founder Julian Assange • Speaking about his situation in the Ecuadorian embassy, where he’s been granted asylum but effectively can’t leave. He thinks that it’ll eventually work itself out, but he’ll probably be stuck in the embassy for as long as six months to a year. (via...

When Tempest Toss'd, Embrace Chaos.: First Day →
cripesonfriday: We brought Gracie over to school for her first day today, she started crying as we were leaving the class. Little silent tears. I know she’ll be fine, I know she’s probably fine already, but I left my little girl crying in a room full of people she doesn’t know, and I don’t think I will ever be… I’ve done this twice. It truly is the weirdest feeling.

I am beginning to see why Samsung really got...
Like, well, this. If you can, hold an iPhone 2G/3G/3GS up next to it. And this isn’t much better, bar that cluster of little circular sensors at the top. Oh, and this. That is pretty troublesome too. As an aside… HTC? You still have to go to court against them yet. So, while you have the chance… change the design of this. Please? For your own good.

motherjones: O’DONNELL: Can you be specific about somewhere where you think President Obama has failed on foreign policy. RICE: What we should do tonight, is talk about what a President Romney would mean for America. It’s not a time to look back, it’s a time to look forward. We have real challenges out there… O’DONNELL: But if President Obama isn’t doing anything wrong, then why change...

curiousgeorgiana: The Wire serene-quill: It wasn’t a coat hanger. It was a wire. The theory was that by inserting the wire through the cervix, moving it around a bit and then removing it, an infection would result and the pregnancy would be aborted. It worked. It was March 1967. Here’s the question I wonder if anyone ever asked them: What would Jesus do? Seriously, what would he...

shortformblog: joshsternberg: WTF? The incident would be ugly anywhere, but it is especially troubling for a party whose nominee attracted 0 percent of the black vote in a recent NBC poll. In case you didn’t hear about this, this is perhaps the lowest point of the entire 2012 campaign. And this is what happens when people start swinging hard right and nobody brings them back from the...

Damnit, not again!
So, I’ve found it pretty impossible lately to go to sleep. The second I’m ready to hit the pillow - boom, head full of crap. It’s getting beyond a joke now, especially as tomorrow’s the only early start I’ll have all week. The worst thing is, I’m not even tired now. Argh.

– A statement from Samsung • Expressing anger over yesterday’s ruling in their patent case against Apple, in which a jury largely ruled in favor of Apple, pushing a $1.05 billion fine on Samsung. For what it’s worth, Apple CEO Tim Cook came out with a statement of his own: “We owe a debt of gratitude...

shortformblog: The jury in the landmark Apple-Samsung trial announced moments ago that Samsung infringed on patents for ’381 “bounce back” scrolling functionality on all devices. On the ’915 patent, relating to one finger to scroll, two to pinch and zoom navigation, all but three Samsung devices (Ace, Intercept and Replenish) infringed. For Apple’s ’163 patent (tap to zoom) all Samsung...

– From BoingBoing I had no idea Spain had got this bad. I mean, I’d heard “economic crisis” and “Spain” in the same sentence, but wow. I honestly thought this was a post-apocalypse fiction story at first, and then realised: This is real. Amazon Kindle book link ...

Tech: why make a mini iPad?
So, it’s looking more and more likely that the rumours of a post-Jobs reversal on the idea of a smaller iPad is true. It’s made pretty obvious by the fact companies are making cases for it. But the question people are still asking is: Why bother? [[MORE]] The full size iPad is 70% of the market now. Recent revelations from the suit against Samsung reveal they account for a mere 9%,...
